| Morocco FAQS Whats included? The MoroccoUNadjusted package includes accommodation in a great hotel with en-suite rooms, breakfast, lunch and an evening meal in a different restaurant each night in town (unless we stay over in a mountain refuge where all meals are provided). We pick you up from Malaga airport, get you and your bike to the Rif Mountains and show you some stunning mountain biking before returning you for an evening flight home or a few more days riding with us in Spain. What do I need to arrange for myself? As well as your flights, you need to sort out travel insurance (Sports Cover Direct provide ideal cover) and perhaps a Visa if you're not from the UK. Pack the usual spares and away you go! ![]() www.wiggle.co.uk Morocco is usually a safe and pleasant place to travel. You will get a little hassle, especially from the kids in the countryside but there is no menace. The hotel we use is perfectly secure with a gated garden and round the clock staff. We're quite happy to bring our small children on holiday to Morocco each year on camping trips. To be honest, we don't feel as safe in Spain, let alone the UK... Money - Cash Points - Where do I get Dirhams? You can't get Moroccan Dirhams in advance in the UK. There are many cash points in town as well as money changers - some of whom give great rates for pounds. As far a trinkets go, your money will go a long way in the Medina if you spend a little time haggling! Medical and insurance For many insurance companies, Morocco is grouped with Southern Europe so shop around if your usual company charges loads extra just because you are visiting North Africa. There is a hospital in the town for the unlikely event of something nasty happening. For full details, for those of a temperamental nature, check the NHS Website and the rather doom ladened (in our experience) Foreign Office Website Can I drink the water? We've never had problems brushing teeth etc but would advice that you fill up Camelbaks from bottled water or high mountain springs. Every time we visit we forget to remember Iodine tablets which would allow you to drink pretty much anywhere. Food in the hotel and restaurants is always perfectly safe. Take the usual travelers precautions and you should be fine. The people. Northern Morocco is much less affluent than Europe. We have alway found the people welcoming if a little direct in some situations... Respect the culture (dress appropriately, haggle in the Medina, enjoy the country) and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Most people speak Arabic, French, some Spanish and a little English. We'll help you through the difficult border crossing and show you the best places to eat etc, but as long as you don't let the kids bug you too much you'll be fine! In the Rif Mountains the main cash crop is Kif (Dope) as long as you don't get involved you won't get any trouble from the locals. As an Islamic country, Morocco is officially dry. There are a few places to get very expensive booze in town but we can recommend the mint tea! Taking photographs often offends people, especially women and Kif farmers. Ask permission and be prepared to respect the answer and to not get that classic shot. Drugs... Drugs are bad. They might be freely available, but if you get involved we'll quite happily disown you and will probably cause you physical violence if you get us into trouble. Before we leave you stranded. That's if the Moroccan Police don't get you first. Nuff said. |
